SOLAS REGULATION /LAUNCHING/ RECOVERY of FREE FALL LIFEBOAT

 FREE-FALL life boat:

SOLAS REGULATION -Free-fall lifeboats shall comply with the requirements of totally enclosed lifeboats described above.

-The carrying capacity of a free-fall lifeboat is the number of persons that can be provided with a seat without interfering with the means of propulsion or the operation of any of the lifeboat's equipment.

-The width of the seat shall be at least 430 mm. Free clearance in front of the backrest shall be at least 635 mm. The backrest shall extend at least 1,000 mm above the seat pan

-Each free-fall lifeboat shall make positive headway immediately after water entry and shall not come into contact with the ship after a free-fall launching against a trim of up to 10° and a list of up to 20° either way from the certification height when fully equipped and loaded with: 1)its full complement of person 2)occupants so as to cause the centre of gravity to be in the most forward position;occupants so as to cause the centre of gravity to be in the most aft position; 3)its operating crew only 

-Each free-fall lifeboat shall be of sufficient strength to withstand, when loaded with its full complement of persons and equipment, a free-fall launch from a height of at least 1.3 times the free fall
certification height.

-Each free-fall lifeboat shall be fitted with a release system which shall:1)have two independent activation systems for the release       mechanisms which may only be operated from inside the lifeboat and be marked in a color that contrasts with its surroundings 2)be so arranged as to release the boat under any condition of             loading from no load up to at least 200% of the normal load caused by the fully equipped lifeboat when loaded with the number of
 persons for which it is to be approved; 3)be adequately protected against accidental or prematureuse;  4)be designed to test the release system without launching the lifeboat;

-be designed with a factor of safety of 6 based on the ultimate strength of the materials used.

-In addition to the requirements for fully enclosed lifeboat certificate of approval for a free-fall lifeboat shall also state:1)free-fall certification height; 2)required launching ramp length; and 3)launching ramp angle

-Make sure it is free
-release the lashing line, the lashing plate will be automatically release once the lashing is released.


-detach battery plug 
-release the safety pin of main release hook and then open the rear hatch cover
-all person boarded , tightened the hatch cover ,ensure drain plug close ,head waisted ,fastened seat belt.
-start engine
- release the release hook lever securing pin 
-pumping the release hook several times the hydraulic oil will pump and release the main release hook
-leave the parent ship
- Never use a painter for free fall launching
-in the event the hydraulic system doesnt work properly use the emergency relese is required, insert the emergency release handle and the lifeboat will launch .




If it is appropriate area of free fall or it is impossible to lower it my Davit arm then




- switch on the hydraulic power pack 
-operate the the control Lever to lower
- remove hook lashing line
- Attach boat hanging wire Rope two suspension 
-by control lever the lifeboat fore and wire rope is balance
- board the lifeboat, the same operation, remove the main release hook
- then by control Lever the lifeboat is lowered
- when water Bourne, remove the hanging wires.

 RECOVERY OF LIFEBOAT

-Switch on the hydraulic power pack .
- BY control Lever swing out the debit arm
-Lower the suspension to the height allowing the wire rope hanging on the position to be attached .
-The operator on board the lifeboat attach the Hanging wire to suspension after signalling operation on deck . The operator on lifeboat should seat belt fastened and stop the engine.
- The operator on deck start hoisting  the lifeboat.
-By control Lever stow the debit arm to the set position
- Hoist the lifeboat until it is positioned on roller launch ramp, lower several time to set thus adjusting.
- Securing the main release hook.
 operator on Deck lower the suspension and then attach boat hanging wire to set place .
-Disconnect the suspension to lifeboat .
-And then set the lashing line
